Bureau Table
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
The block-front form was widely popular in Massachusetts, and many pieces have a history of ownership in Boston. Those similar to this example—with horizontal proportions, Rococo brasses, and flat blocking—can be dated somewhat later than others. The pattern of the detailing on this table, a central semicircle flanked by ogee curves, was one of the most common.
