Candle Stand

United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing (“Shakers”)

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Although several similar stands exist, this example is one of the finest known. Note the elongated "wine-bottle" post and the graceful springing legs, which are tapered both in thickness and length. An almost identical stand is owned by the Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
