Stand
William Sprats
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
Certain features of this stand are peculiar to furniture made in the Norwich area of Connecticut. The idiosyncratic knee carving, a symmetrical arrangement of flat, overlapping leaves, the bottom ones extended on the sides in high-relief scrolls, and the fluted colonette with carved Corinthian capital are features found on other furniture credited to Norwich.
