Candlestick

Cornelius Kierstede

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

These richly ornamented candlesticks and the accompanying snuffer stand were originally owned by Johannes Schuyler, the mayor of Albany from 1703 to 1706, and his wife, Elsie Staats Schuyler, who were married in 1695. The chinoiserie chasing on the bases is extremely rare in American silver.
