Side chair
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
This chair is an unusual rendition of the Gothic taste in Philadelphia. The posts splay outward, forming an uncommonly broad crest rail, and the ornament is remarkably small in scale. The chair is coded number “IV” in a set of side chairs that were produced en suite with an armchair and a dressing table, all with identical legs.
