Doorway

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

The design of this doorway and its decoration are characteristic of Philadelphia architecture of the early Federal period. The doorway features a broken pediment and a frieze that is decorated with applied composition ornaments. Details of the frieze include a draped classical figure, in the center, holding a garland in each raised hand.
